The wines of the “FLEUR D ‘ORANGER” winery are produced on 20-hectare vine plantations on the Pearl Island near Novi Bečej. Most of the plantations are indigenous unique variety of Muscat Krokan.

Muscat Krokan is a very sensitive variety that was brought from the African continent to European soil and successfully planted and survived in the old bed of the Tisza River on the Pearl Island.
In the middle of the eighteenth century, extensive land reclamation works were undertaken in this area, determining the banks and resolving the course of the river. On that occasion, the biggest curve of the Tisza, by cutting new riverbed in the length of eight kilometers near Novi Bečej, was brought close to the town houses. The Tisza was forced to leave the old riverbed, 23 kilometers long, and that is how the Pearl Island was created. The Muscat Krokan variety grown on it yielded a wine containing about 12 percent of alcohol. As it is of exceptional quality, it is considered the drink of the rich.

Climate

In the 19th century, a meander of the Tisza was created near Novi Bečej, also called the Old Tisza or Dead Tisa. It was formed when the riverbed of the Tisza was cut during the definition of the river flow. Thanks to the Count Gedeon Rohonci, this meander of the river Tisza became very famous.
In this area there is the Old Tisa Nature Park on an area of about 980 hectares.
The name Pearl Island is due to the exceptional characteristics of the land itself that thrives on grapes, and then all the other fruits that made Count Rohonci famous in the 19th century, who exported them to most major European cities. On the Pearl Island, Gedeon Rohonci planted the Muscat Krokan vine, a kind which, due to its qualities and specifics, still enjoys the glory of old times

Land and climate

The peculiarity of the Pearl Island vineyards comes from the specifics of the alluvial land of the old riverbed of the Tisza. Microclimatic conditions dominated by sunny days are extremely favourable for vine cultivation.

Assortment

Several varieties of vines are grown in the vineyards of the Fleur D’Oranger winery. The largest area of our vineyards is under the legend variety Muscat Krokan. We also grow varieties: Rhine Riesling, Chardonnay, Franconian, Cabernet Franc and Muscat Hamburg.
